How to work from home with your office phone

With the cost of travel going up and up, CO2 emissions, the occasional day off ill and some bad weather thrown in, it can be jolly handy spending the odd day or three working from home.

However, this can still pose a bit of a problem for many office phone systems.

It’s normally quite easy to divert the calls to your home phone, but the snag comes when you then return a call, as it shows your home number and the cost goes on your home bill.

Or, worse, you have to make calls from a mobile, with all the costs and reception problems, which that entails.

And that’s only half the story. Should you want to allow employees to work from home, you have less control over the calls and how they are dealt with. In addition, you’re never sure if they received that vital voicemail.

For these reasons, it’s far better to extend your office extension to the home. How? Simple. Just use a remote extension of the office system, giving you all the features as if you were in the office, plus some extras to help manage home workers.

By adding features like Call Recording, you can ensure your remote workers are maintaining the high standards of communication that you require, even when they’re out of the office for a day or two.

Nowadays it’s not that difficult to provide fully-featured office handsets, working over the internet, at a remote location. You can even use the same extension number at the remote site.

By using these handsets you’ll avoid missing opportunities because you had to work from home, and you’ll save time and money as you won’t have to rush to the office just to make a couple of calls.

Data Backup – Don’t Leave It Until It Is Too Late..!

Whether we are talking about irreplaceable family photos stored on a home PC system, or 10 years of critical business data on a company server – data backup is a critical task but one that is still so often neglected or under-valued.

I would urge you all to take a few moments to consider whether your existing backup / disaster recovery plans are a) working, b) are understood by the relevant personnel and c) cover all the data required and offer a restore time / method which matches your business needs.

Whenever I meet with a new organisation for the first time, I undertake a complete review of their existing structure and IT practices.  I have lost count of the amount of times where backup solutions have been identified as failing, not being undertaken at all or not providing suitable cover for the environment concerned.

With advances in technology, there are a wide range of backup options available and we provide information on all relevant options for our clients so that we can assist them with an informed choice on the best path to take.  These options might include:-

1) Traditional tape backup technology using either files & folder or complete image backup facilities.

2) Backup solutions using external portable hard drive rotation

3) Complete managed online backup facilities including full disaster recovery provisions where relevant

If you would like to arrange a meeting to discuss your individual needs and concerns in person then please do let me know.
