On 7th July, Louise Punter, CEO of Surrey Chamber of Commerce was guest speaker at BEST – the business group in Guildford.
She emphasised the importance of the Chamber in reflecting the views of all sizes of businesses in the County when speaking with government representatives. The Chamber was very much a ‘bottom-up’ rather than ‘top down’ operation and relied on local business groups such as BEST to feed in their members’ views on issues affecting them.
Surrey is an extremely productive county and is a major contributor of funds to finance government initiatives in other areas of the country. However, more emphasis needs to be put on publicising this and the need for improvements to infrastructure in the county which often hampers the productivity of local companies.
Laurie Rogers, who chaired the meeting, thanked Louise for her stimulating address and said many of BEST members would be making more use of the Chamber in the months to come. He was particularly interested in learning how the Chamber is helping small exporters to build more trade with Europe having recently acquired the French Pelissier Card Table manufacturing business and relocated it to Britain.
Every month BEST has a dedicated visitors day and often invites guest speakers to address the Group.
